The Town of Poolesville was incorporated in 1867.  Located in the northwestern part of Montgomery County, Poolesville is 33 miles from Washington, D.C., it is also conveniently located to Frederick, Rockville and Gaithersburg, Maryland as well as Leesburg, Virginia.

The Town recognizes that the business community is vital to the Town, both as a source of basic goods and services and as a major factor in improving the quality of life in the Town.  The distance of the Town to other sources of goods and services makes it necessary for the Town to have its own source of businesses that can provide Town residents with their basic needs.  The residents' desire to maintain Poolesville's small town or village character makes it necessary to have additional goods and services, such as health care and other professional services and shopping and dining options, more accessible.
